Description of Project: The Primary School Construction Project, an Islamic Development Bank-assisted project, was implemented from July 1999 to June 2002. Following its successful implementation, IDB agreed to finance a second project to provide physical facilities for education and temporary shelters to flood affected people. Under this project a total of 310 government primary schools are being built, out of which 100 schools (design type-A: one story building with two stories foundation) are in normal flood affected areas, and 210 schools (design type-B: two storied building with three storied foundation) are in regularly flood affected low-lying and haor areas. Each school will have three classrooms, one teacher’s room and one verandah, two separate latrines and a tube-well. Furniture and teaching materials will be supplied for each school.

 

Description of actual services provided by DPDS in the assignment:

DPDS provided services to assist the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) in smooth implementation of the Project, undertaken monitoring and evaluation and ensured quality control of construction and of civil works as well as supplying furniture. DPDS also assisted in preparing change in structural design and estimates according to site conditions when necessary.
